Vishwanath in Hospital
Hello All,
Most of us have been lucky enough to lead a normal life without major ups and downs and sometimes tend to view life as something that can never be taken away. One discussion with my ex colleague Prema Kannan, about something that happened to her family friend- T.K.Vishwanath in the first week of February literally shook me up and forced me to sit up and take notice and do something constructive.
T.K Vishwanath - works for a monthly salary of less than Rs.5000 in a petroleum products company in Mumbai, India.
He stays in Dharavi, Mumbai in his 80sq. ft tenement with his wife Janaki and his 2 daughters in Grade 12th and Grade 10th. On 2nd Feb 2009 he had to be rushed to Surana Sethia Hospital in Chembur, Angiography revealed 4 blockages and He had to undergo emergency Bypass surgery on 3rd Feb 2009.
The cost of Angiography and Bypass surgery was around Rs.1.75 Lakh. with post op care and medicines which can take another Rs. 15000 to Rs. 20,000.
Surgery Cost Estimate
As you can imagine - its very difficult for Vishwanath or his family to raise this amount on their own, and I along with with my close friend Prema Kannan, we are trying to raise around Rs. 2 Lakh, to cover for the cost of the surgery and also take proper care of the post-op care for Vishwanath.
Salary Slip
Prema and her husband have done their duty as humans and paid for the cost using their credit cards, but that is just like fending off the inevitable costs for some time Prema Kannan.
We have also applied to some charitable trusts in Mumbai to offset part or full cost of the surgery.
